The
term Shadow IT refers to the IT(Informational Technology) projects
that are managed outside the knowledge of IT department and over time
these Shadow
IT risk
have gained importance as traditionally they were limited to
unapproved Excel macros and boxes of software employees purchase at
office supply stores however with vast usage of internet and with the
wide spread of technology the Shadow
it
risk
have
grown exponentially and the figures shown by the recent reports are
shocking as it states that more than forty percent of the IT spending
at the company occurs outside the IT dept. and this
rapid growth is partly driven by the quality of consumer applications
in the cloud such as file sharing apps that are very popular these
days and other social media, and collaboration tools, however we need
to understand that it’s also increasingly driven by lines of
business deploying enterprise-class SaaS applications. In many ways
Shadow IT is helping to make businesses more competitive and
employees more productive and thus with the Shadow
IT risk
results in optimum use of resources and thus helps in effectively
using the resources of any organization.
As
per the recent study more than ninety percent of the organizations
are using cloud based SaaS applications as they are cost effective
and thus helps the organization to reduce the operational cost and
it’s seen that with more and more applications getting blocked on
the floor IT employees are using new ways to use them which increases
the Shadow
IT risk for
the organization and thus managing Shadow
IT risk is
one of the most important and crucial function for any organization
as if the Shadow
IT risk is
managed effectively then it can result in optimal use of
organizational resources.
